Video: Solo Stove Campfire Unboxing

Though we have a Solo Stove Campfire we got via the Kickstarter launch, we didn’t have one with the matching two pot set. To fix that problem, we got one. These pots are large for sure. Since we got the whole kit we figured it was time for a Solo Stove Campfire unboxing.

The Tactical Marker. A Rugged EDC Sharpie

Writing utensils are a an absolute must in anyones EDC kit. If your a good member of The Gear Whores, multiple types of writing tools are at your disposal right now. Most likely amongst the myriad of tactical marking tools in your murse, one of them is the trusty Sharpie marker. This almost universal, permanent marker is a main stay around gear bags, IFAKs, and those redacting .gov paperwork. The only major problem it that for more rugged tasks, its semi-flexible barrel can be a problem. With the introduction of the stainless Sharpie pen, this was much improved. Now with a new effort on KickStarter the Sharpie is a tough as nails writer, reborn as the Tactical Marker.

This solid 7075 aluminum marker barrel is designed to accept the now available refills for the stainless Sharpie pen, according to the KickStarter Page:

“The Tactical Marker-TM is designed around the classic Sharpie refill and ships with three (3) tool tips, machined from tough 7075 alloy. The TM uses a full size Sharpie refill that threads into the barrel.”

This over built marker body also boasts some additional add-ons to include a heavier endcap dubbed the “Hammer” and the ever expected tactical kubotan “Spike” point. We’re quite happy with what is being shown so far from the Tactical Marker and as always are ready and waiting to get this bad boy in our hands and put it through some testing. You can back the Tactical Marker here on Kickstarter.

Cooking steak on the Solo Stove Campfire

The wait is over and we managed to get our hands on a new Solo Stove Campfire. Of course the first thing a big stove like this needs is a big steak.

After we finish searing our 48oz steak on a stick we decide to finish the cooking process with our brand new Solo Stove Campfire, and we were in no way disappointed.  Its like roasting marshmallows made of cows.

A full review of the new Solo Stove Campfire will be on the way, but for now I think we can all enjoy this savory steak video treat.

Searing a 48oz steak on a Lodge Cast Iron Hibachi

Every one gets hungry while camping. When we get hungry, we want meat. Luckily on this trip we brought a bit of tasty cow with us.

We start cooking this 48oz on the bone ribeye steak by stearing it on a brand new Lodge cast iron hibachi grill. In part two of this video we finish cooking this delicious steak with the Solo Stove Campfire.

Sabering Lagunitas with a Knife

While getting out on a nice January camping trip we got a bit thirsty, and didn’t seem to have easy access to a bottle opener. So to solve our drinking problem we saber open bottles of Lagunitas beer with a custom Grindhouse Knives DSK XL pocket knife and our own The Gear Whores prototype fixed blade Tango Hotel. Why? Because sabering a bottle is bad ass!

Exotac fireSLEEVE

Every good outdoor and EDC kit needs certain things to make it viable, and one of those things is fire. Of the many methods to start fire, one of the most common to carry is the good old fashioned disposable lighter. These lighters are cheap and easy to find anywhere and disperse throughout your multiple kits. The problem comes when you want this simple staple to do more than it already does. That’s where the new Exotac fireSLEEVE steps in. This Kickstarter from the already well established folks at Exotac looks to enhance our everyday lighter. The fireSLEEVE is fitted case that appears to be rugged and waterproof. The protective cap helps to prevent the unwanted gas discharge when the lighter is stowed, and also has an integrated strap to hold the gas button down to help keep your fingers away from the flame when starting stoves and fires. We are certainly looking forward to getting a hold of the Exotac fireSLEEVE and putting it through it’s paces. I mean come on, who does like to play with fire outdoors.
